Submission Guidelines

Submit

The Basics

Submissions are open throughout the academic year. We accept prose, poetry, and visual arts submissions from current undergraduate students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. We actively seek out work in both traditional and non-traditional forms, and encourage work that is both purposeful and innovative.

Due to a high volume of submissions, we will only accept a maximum of three poems, three works of prose, and five works of visual art. All work must be submitted digitally to each department's corresponding email.

How to Submit

We don't have a preferred submission file type- however, we recommend sharing it either as a .pdf or as a Google Doc so that way it can be read seamlessly. Please do let us know in the body of your submission email if any formatting choices are intentional.

The body of the email should contain your name, email address, and the titles of your submitted works. In addition, you must include your class, major(s) and minor(s), and your hometown.

For poetry and prose:

  • Your name should not appear anywhere in the body of the document.

  • All items must be in 12pt Times New Roman or Arial, as well as double-spaced.

  • Each poem or prose piece should not exceed more than 10 pages.

  • The document must be named in the following format: LastName_TitleOfWork.pdf

  • Email your submission with the subject line: "[Poetry / Prose] Submission [Fall / Spring] [Year]."

  • Email your submission to either cellardoorfiction@gmail.com or cellardoorpoetry@gmail.com.

For visual art:

  • Visual art must be in a .jpeg format.

  • Color images are accepted along with grayscale work.

  • The longest dimension must be 1200 pixels.

  • The document must be named in the following format: LastName_TitleOfWork.pdf

  • Email your submission with the subject line: "Visual Art Submission [Fall / Spring] [Year]."

  • Email your submission to cellardoorart@gmail.com.
