Cellar Door Editor Applications

We are expanding our editorial board! We are hiring for: poetry editor, fiction editor, nonfiction editor, art editor, design editor(s), publicity editor, and web editor for the 2022-2023 academic year! All applications are linked to the title of the position below, and we’ve included descriptions of the position and time commitment. Roles will begin in late July with editorial board meetings to plan and prepare for the year (these will be virtual or in-person depending on where everyone is, so please don't worry if you will not be in Chapel Hill at this time). Poetry Editor: Responsible for soliciting and organizing incoming submissions. Communicating with and scheduling meetings among staff for reading and judging of pieces. Responsible for communicating with all contributors as to the status of their pieces, any edits needed to be made, and any other communication necessary. Required to attend monthly staff meetings and biweekly editorial board meetings. Will be a resource for staff members, and should set a good example in contributing to the community of Cellar Door, publicizing the magazine, and attending Cellar Door events. If necessary, will be asked to help copy edit the writing of the magazine near deadline time. Apply HERE.

Art editor: Responsible for soliciting and organizing incoming submissions. Communicating with and scheduling meetings among staff for reading and judging of pieces. Will work with the Web editor to supply content for the website, including potential interviews with contributors and staff. Co-Design editor(s): Responsible for the layout and design of the entire magazine, including the pairing of art and writing, the creation of the table of contents, and cover design. Responsible for developing ideas for themed-layout based on magazine content that will be pitched to the editorial board along with co-design editor. Must have proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Must have strong communication skills, and will need to communicate among genre editors if there are any issues with pieces, the length of pieces, etc.  Required to attend monthly staff meetings and biweekly editorial board meetings. Publicity editor: Responsible for the upkeep of all Cellar Door social medias, including Twitter and Instagram. Will create content and post roughly 1-2 times a week, although this can fluctuate. Responsible for creating and posting any flyers necessary around campus. Responsible for promoting magazine publication, parties, and events through social media and around campus. Responsible for documenting events, including photography and video, and posting these on stories, etc. Will develop creative and engaging content for social media, as well as any logistical updates needed. Will work with the web editor to coordinate any simultaneous posting. Required to attend monthly staff meetings and biweekly editorial board meetings. Apply HERE.

Web editor: Responsible for the upkeep of Cellar Door website. Will aid the publicity editor in documenting events, including photography and video, and posting these on the website. Will update the website with all upcoming dates, as well as content from the magazine. Will develop creative and engaging web content, including potentially any audio/video submissions received. Will be most labor and time intensive during July/August (the website needs to be updated with adjustments for next school year), and January. Must have experience with Wix, and experience with other web editing programs is highly recommended. Required to attend monthly staff meetings and biweekly editorial board meetings. Apply HERE.
